So this is rather interesting:

I was snooping around Barnes & Noble's manga section and I found a few volumes of Sword Art Online's light novels on sale. Below are some pictures I took on a rush before going home (sorry if the first image is blurry). The writing looks legit and delves much more in the mechanics of the series.

What are your thoughts? I haven't seen light novels on sale at B&N, but I think it's a good exposure for the Western audience. After all, light novels have one of the best expositions and explanations behind series.

Discuss.

Warning, images are huge:

I think its pretty good exposure, but if they put them in the manga section then the general public probably isn't ever going to feel inclined to read them, since they probably don't go in there often. :/ In the first place, light novels aren't manga, they're light novels. They should be put somewhere else, like where the novels go, perhaps?

Sort of related:
The San Diego County Library carries LNs, as I get monthly sci-fi/fantasy newsletters from them, and one of the recommendations was Is it wrong to try and pick up girls in a dungeon? It was pretty amazing.

I guess that's debatable though, since the light novels do contain more pictures than a usual novel or abridged novel does. I don't blame Barnes and Nobles for not putting the SAO light novels in the manga section, since it's related to the series manga, anime, and manga spin-offs. America doesn't have the concept of "light novels" down yet, so it's most likely gonna stay in the manga section for awhile.

Naruto had something similar to this a few years ago when I went to B&N. Someone had made a novel version of the first few volumes, though it was rather kiddish and stayed unnoticed for quite awhile. It stayed in the manga section and I don't even know where it went to be honest XD (AoT and other popular series are hoarding all the shelf space).

@Light Novels in Libraries:
.... ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME? THAT'S AWESOME! I need to get my hands on any of the light novels now. Do you know what category the LNs go, as in "YA" or "Graphic Novel"?

I actually tried reading the manga version of Is it wrong to try and pick up girls in a dungeon? and it reminded me too much of SAO so I dropped it. Is it any good in terms of comedy and plot?

Yah, I agree that they're probably going to be stuck in the manga section. But at the same time, arguably a lot of children's novels also feature tons of pictures. Though, the kinds of light novels getting licensed these days tend to feature a bit more mature (sometimes somewhat lewd) content in comparison to your average children's novels, lol.

I have no idea what category they go in, unfortunately (Have not been to the library in ages). I assume they would be in the graphic novel section though. As for Is it wrong to try and pick up a girl in a dungeon?, I actually haven't really read read it; by amazing, I meant the fact that the library would recommend a light novel was amazing.  I did read like a little bit of the light novel a while back when Baka-Tsuki posted a bit of translation as teaser though. My impression was sort of meh too, but I'm thinking about trying to read it again. In summation, no clue if LN with annoyingly long title is good or not. But if the frigging library recommends it, I think its worth a read.

...RIP in peace in peaces Naruto LNs.

Ugh I know what you mean -.- But on a side note, they could just stuff all the light novels into the erotica sections of the bookstores... Though not all light novels are considered erotica on top of that //le sigh//

Hmmm, I think I'll try and check it out at the library sometime during spring break when I have more time. But for now, I'll kick back and see what happens, since that series is getting an anime during the 2015 spring season (according to Anichart). I just hope that the majority of it isn't completely harem and actually has some good points in the LN like SAO... But from the title, I'm reassessing my previous thoughts.
